Japan is a country where the sun rises. A country with very old and inviolable traditions. The art of this country is full of contemplation and romance, glorification of the beauty of the world around us, which can easily take us far from everyday life, causing sincere astonishment and admiration.
"Art Beyond Boundaries" - a competition dedicated to the art of sumi-e, has been held for 18 years. The president and director of the competition Tohun Kobayashi and Harumi Tohsei Kobayashi are experienced masters and teachers of sumi-e. They consider it their honorable mission to unite this world through art. This year the competition covered more than 22 countries. Ukraine also joined the international event. In January 2021, at the National Gallery in Tokyo, at the International Exhibition-Competition, Ukraine was represented by the Art Studio of the famous artist from Berdyansk Nina Butieva. Among 460 participants, Ukraine was awarded five honors and international awards. Among the works that took part in the competition, the works of our artists really impressed the jury of the competition. Teachers of the sumi-e also noted the works of artists from Berdiansk. The special color in the works did not leave indifferent any connoisseur of beauty in Ukraine. The exhibition was attended by ambassadors - representatives of all participating countries.
The Berdyansk Art Museum presents competitive works by Berdyansk artists, works by Nina Butieva, made in the technique of sumi-e, as well as friends from distant Japan.
